Magni-chigan!

So as I spend my last night here in the great state of Michigan, I’m reflecting on the magnificent week I’ve had on the lower peninsula. I’ve met some amazing folks, biked some amazing routes, ate some amazing food and in general had a blast. I even left myself a permanent reminder, of course.

I want to thank everyone I’ve met in my week here: Jene’e and John and Meg in Boyne city. Nesta, Shawn, Brooklyn, Heather, and everyone in Traverse City: TC in TC was a blast!!! (special thanks to Kyle for hooking the ink up) Bob in Luther. Joyce and Roger in Midland. Pam and Jay in Silverwood. John and John in Wales. Also, the lovely Pere Marquette rail trail; a great ride.

I’ll be hitting Canada tomorrow. Health care is free but the cost of a roaming iPhone is quite expensive. I’d like to keep blogging, so if you’ve got a spare buck or two or ten, feel free to hit the paypal donation button. I’m not riding for charity but I am out of money!!

Also update on my wheel: cracks going slowly. I’m walking it over bumpy sections and shifted heavy weight to the front. I’m gonna chance it and try to make it home. Wish me luck and thanks to John for the info on my situation.

Cornfields and Barking Dogs

I’ve bikes two nations, eight states/provinces, mountains, valleys, plains, rivers, lakes, farms, and more. Two things have remained constant: corn fields and barking dogs.

Corn has been grown in every corner I’ve been to. Which I expected. The dogs, not so much. Dogs have chased me down the road, they barked from inside houses, I’ve heard them howling a mile away. I wasn’t sure why and I’m still not sure.

Either way, when I get home, I’m popping some popcorn and spending with Isis, my best friend.

On the Way to the Thumb: Mexican with the British

I spent all day thinking of that title.

Folks in Michigan show you were they live by pointing to a place on their hand. The thinking is that Michigan is shaped like a hand. So in effect, I’ve been through the middle, ring and pinky fingers. Now I’m heading across the palm on the way to the thumb.

I met some new mates from the UK, Andy and Dave. They are biking from LA to NYC. Andy and Dave have a fetish for eating at Subways across America, but today I convinced them to partake in the $6 all you can eat Mexican buffet in Bay City.

Clever huh?
